In Memory of Pope Francis

With so many people all over the world, we mourn the loss of the late Pope Francis. He said that his own life story was a journey of hope. He understood that in a world that can feel scary or divided, God’s love and the hope it brings is needed more than ever. Pilgrims of Hope is the theme he chose for this Jubilee year and he spoke of many situations and injustices that we need to address this year, one being the acute debt crises the world is facing (see below for how we can get involved). We must continue this work while we give thanks for the life of Pope Francis, who inspired, challenged and made such a positive difference to so many people throughout the world. Thanks to those who have prayed with us and to those who have left a message of condolence, lit a candle or donated in his memory.

UK campaign calls for major debt cancellation in Jubilee year

Campaign Parish Resources

You may have received a pack in the post a couple of weeks ago with a petition for your parish. This is part of a worldwide church petition about the debt crisis that is affecting many of the world’s poorest countries, including Kenya, which featured in our Family Fast Day story. They are making huge repayments to wealthy banks and institutions instead of funding schools and hospitals. We have a letter to parishioners from a priest based in Kenya, Father Charlie Chilufya, to explain what the petition is about.

Myanmar Earthquake Emergency Appeal- Update

Myanmar Earthquake Appeal: Thanks for any help you gave in raising awareness of or holding collections for our Myanmar Earthquake Appeal in parishes and schools. Our local partners have coordinated the emergency response programming across Myanmar, with the initial assistance focused on delivering cash, hygiene and emergency shelter kits to affected communities across six states, and preparation underway for building transitional shelters and repairs to damaged water supply systems, such as hand pumps, and latrines.

You can find parish resources in the link below, including a parish appeal poster and an image you could ask to be placed on your parish’s Facebook page.
