CAFOD
UK - Volunteer - Ariana

Ariana has been an office volunteer in the Southwark Archdiocese since March 2025.

Have you met/heard any of CAFOD’s staff speak when they visit parishes?

Yes, I have. The talk at Mass for Lent Family Fast day given by Celeste [Community Participation Coordinator] is what actually inspired me to join CAFOD. After hearing it I knew that this could be a chance for me to finally give out the help I wanted to give but also gain valuable experience.

Why did you choose to offer your time to volunteer?

I believe in the work CAFOD does around the world. I believe that to make the word of God be heard we need more people to get involved in volunteering. I love how much work CAFOD is doing in South America and they are focusing in rural communities in Peru (my home country).

Have you been involved in fundraising or campaigning events?

Yes, the London Marathon Bake Sale. We raised about £300.

What is it like being a volunteer?

It's refreshing, it just feels empowering to know with the work you are doing you are changing lives.

Why is it important to you to give to others?

I have always been told to never deny help you know you can give. If it is within your capacity to do so, then you should definitely do it.

Is giving/fundraising a part of your faith?

Yes, it always has been.

What does the word ‘justice’ mean to you?

For everyone to have access to the basic life necessities.

What do you think is your greatest achievement?

Coming to England, finishing a degree in my second language and just living in a completely different culture. Every day is exciting!

What would you say to someone who is considering volunteering?

Join! You will be so thankful you did!

Do you have any heroes?

My parents and Saint Rose of Lima.
